Four Birmingham drug dealers have been jailed for a total of 46 years after a West Midlands Police investigation uncovered a plot to supply Class A drugs worth £1.5m.
Detectives from the force’s Serious and Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) arrested the men in February this year following a seven month investigation.
Sajad Hussain has been told he will serve 16 years after pleading guilty to conspiracy to supply drugs in June this year.
The 35-year-old was arrested whilst on a work placement when officers raided the premises he was based at it in Saltley in February this year. They seized £1.5m worth of heroin from the address and from a car at another location in the city.
He and five other men were subsequently charged with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.
Hussain’s brothers-in-law Nazabat Hussain, 23 and Asif Hussain, 26, both of Albert Road, Aston, were jailed for 12 and eight years respectively after pleading guilty. Naqash Younis, 33, of Hartley Road, Kingstanding, also admitted the charge and was jailed for 10 years.
Two other men, aged 25 and 43, from Birmingham, were found not guilty following a two week trial in July this year.
Detective Inspector Ronan Tyrer from the force’s Serious and Organised Crime Unit, said: “This operationwas set up to focus on the suspected drug supply activities of Sajid Hussain.
“As a result, we recovered six kilograms of heroin from a business premises called Cyber Beds in Saltley and a further nine kilograms from a vehicle parked outside Younis’s address in Kingstanding. The total street value of the drugs was £1.5m.”
He added: “The sentences send a strong message to people who involve themselves in drugs supply for their own financial gain and who cause damage to our communities with the drugs they peddle.
“Now court proceedings have ended, financial investigators will be look at these men’s assets under the Proceeds of Crime Act to try and recoup the gains they made as a result of their criminal activities.”
