Upcoming flick ‘Players’ is a Desi makeover of the 2003Hollywoodhit, ‘the Italian Job.’
But actor Neil Nitin Mukesh, who will star in the action-flick, feels that Bollywood is flagging behind its Western counterpart, especially when technology and execution is involved.
The sultry actor told Hindustan Times, “We are nowhere close toHollywood, be it in terms of technology and processing, or story line and execution. Their Superman and all came 30 years back and we hardly made a film like Krrish that has worked for us.”
The 30 year old said that Bollywood are not catering to their audiences.
He said, “Movies are meant to be larger than life, but it is not like that in our films. We are not catering to our audiences’ wants.”
Neil also added that Bollywood could do with more intelligent filmmaking. He said,
“These days, almost for every film, critics say, ‘leave your brains behind and enjoy the film’. Why would one leave their brains behind? The audience wants to see an intelligent film, so make an intelligent film for them.”
But Neil feels that ‘Players’ is reaching up to Hollywood’s standards, and praised directing duo Abbas-Mustan’s execution of the film.
“Players is also quite advanced in its execution and is a very well shot film,” he says.
The remake also stars Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, Sonam Kapoor, Bipasha Basu and Omi Vaidya.
