Three cases filed in 2007 against Shilpa Shetty for publicly kissing Hollywood actor Richard Gere were transferred by the Supreme Court to one in Mumbai.
Shilpa’s lawyer Anand Grover pleases for the transfer, resulting in the apex court bench of Justice A.K. Ganguly and Justice J.S Khehar moved the cases to the court of Mumbai metropolitan magistrate.
The actress’s busy schedule was cited as the reason behind the transfer from Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh to Mumbai.
The Mumbai court will now decide if a case of obscenity was made out against the Big Brother contestant or if it should be dismissed.
The cases involve the Chicago actor Richard Gere, who visited Delhi in 2007 to promote his AIDS Awareness campaign.
During one function for drivers at the Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar, Richard hugged and kissed Shilpa.
The kiss was meant to pay homage to Richard’s 2005 hit, Shall We Dance, also starring Jennifer Lopez, in which such a kiss appeared.
The three cases, two in Rajasthan and one in the Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh, were filed against the two actors on charges of obscenity.
The court while staying the arrest warrant against Gere told Time of India, “This is nothing but publicity-hunting…. By filing such cases and getting such orders, you are getting a bad name for the country.”
