After the success of Vidya Balan starrer ‘Kahaani’, director Aditya Chopra is looking to make an English version of the hit.
The film, which raked in millions at the box office, was a success with critics and cinema goers alike and it was only a matter of time that directors would step forward for sequels and remakes.
There was talk that Yash Raj Films spoke to co-producers Jayantilal Gada and Sujoy Ghosh to have access to the rights of the film.
But now, it has been reported in Indian tabloid Mirror that Aditya had approached the films producers to gain the rights to a make a remake.
And according to the Times of India, the director managed to bag to rights to make the English version of the film.
“If all goes well, we will soon get to see Kahaani in English. And that too from the Yash Raj Film banner,” a source told the publication.
Sources claim that the plan involves making this project under YRF’s new foreign division made by Uday Chopra, but according to the Times of India, the final decision hasn’t been made yet.
“It could even be under the YRF banner also. But Aditya surely wants the film. It’s a gripping script. The response at the ticket window is a proof of that fact,” said the source.
The film has already been sold to Endemol for a Telugu and Tamil remake, making them the first filmmaking projects for the television production house.
CEO Endemol India Deepak Dhar said, “Filmmaking was always on the cards and we are delighted to finally set out to actually do it. We are extremely excited about our first project, the remake of Kahaani, which will be in production soon.”
