We recently went and had some Gup-shup with the Pakistani singer and icon Humera Arshad.
Humera has had many distinctive looks over the years from blond to brown to brunette but one thing that hasn’t changed is her ambition to perform on stage and take her music to the world, even now she is a married woman with child.
She told us her ultimate ambition would be to perform with Madonna; however some see her as the Pakistani version of the material girl.
So when did you start your career in Showbiz?
It’s been about 15 years now. My entry into the industry was actually accidental but once I got into the field, I liked it.
So how was the journey into the world of showbiz ?
It was not easy and because there are more news channels in Pakistan rather than entertainment channels, it is difficult to get the music to a maximum number of people but we love our job and as singers we just carry on doing what we love.
Would you ever leave Pakistan to work in another country’s music industry?
I love Pakistan and no one can ever leave their roots behind. Those that do however can never be successful. If I do receive some good offers, I will consider but it’s difficult to settle down in another country even if it’s for job related reasons, and I am the singer that “I am today because of the people of Pakistan. “
So which video did you enjoy shooting the most to date?
I have 2 new singles coming out soon called “Darni ah Main Darni ah” and “Aaja Wain Behja”, in which people will find that I will appear quite different and I have made a music video after quite some time so hopefully people will like my new music just as much as I do.
Tell us about the many faces of Humera as you keep changing your looks?
My appearance is the part of your demanding career. You have to maintain your looks and keep experimenting.
So what is more difficult maintaining your looks or singing?
Yes when I first started, I didn’t used to do makeup and I stayed simple but now times have changed because the looks and the style also matters. So I had to change myself to fit into the changing industry.
So you have a family and a son, how difficult is it to balance your celebrity lifestyle together with your family?
It is very difficult to travel because my son is still a toddler and whilst performing as a Mother, I can’t help but worry about him. However, after a while you get used to it.
What is your favourite food, destination and what’s your dream?
I like all delicious food, my favourite destination is New York and my dream is to become a famous international singer.
