Stars and filmmakers all over the Bollywood galaxy have been left disheartened after the death of screen legend, Dev Anand.

The 88 year old, whose career spanned 65 years as both a debonair hero and a director, died in his sleep on 4th December, after a cardiac arrest.

Dev came to London for a medical check-up and died after a fatal heart attack in his hotel room 3.30 am.

The actor was taken to a hospital nearby, but he was pronounced dead.

His trademark hair, inspired by his Hollywood idol Gregory Peck, and his charismatic walk in films like ‘Jewel Thief’ and ‘Baazi’, made him an unforgettable icon and won him a legions of fans all over the globe.

Known as the “father of romance”, he has inspired and touched many of his contemporaries in Indian cinema and the comments left for him are a testament.

Singham star Ajay Devgn told the Times of India that his “unique style and his undying passion for cinema will always inspire us. His demise is a huge loss to the industry.

Sanjay Dutt said that Dev was very close to his parents and that the named his son Sunil after his father.

Speaking about his time in Anand’s dubbing studio, he said, “Whenever I dubbed in Anand Dubbing studio, I made it a point to meet Devsaab. He gave me his autobiography, signed the first page and kissed my forehead! I remember all these words he spoke a year back! God bless his soul…”

Aamir Khan, known for ‘Lagaan’ and ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, said “Dev Sahab was a force of creative energy. A man of immense charisma and charm. His passing away is a sad loss to all lovers of Indian cinema. My heartfelt condolences to all in the family.”

Father and daughter, Anil and Sonam Kapoor also spoke of their sadness and praised the actor for his inspirational work.

Sonam said, “He was the hero of my fav film guide. And his songs were something that dad and me bonded over while watching. He was my fathers favorite actor.”

Mission Impossible star, Anil Kapoor added, “Over the years it seemed as if Devsaab had figured out the formula for agelessness. Now that he is no more the words ‘ever green’ don’t seem synonymous with anyone, anymore.

I spoke to him quite recently during the release of his film Chargesheet. He sounded exuberant and cheerful gearing up for his next venture. Maybe that is meant for the Gods now. Devsaab – I will miss you.”

And we will miss you too, Dev Anand. Rest in Peace.
