Soundtracks are often inspired by the film they’re based on. But according to Ekk Deewana Tha director Gautham Menon, the screenplay of his new film was developed around the music AR Rahman made for it.
A Hindi remake of the Tamil film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, Menon revealed it was his first film with the Oscar winning composer.
He told the Hindustan Times, “I had the story and screenplay ready. It’s my first film with Rahman and he was keen to give the music and actually gave more songs than the film required. Listening to the songs, I built a fresh screenplay around them.”
Asked about choosing Prateik Babbar for the leading man role, Menon revealed that he changed the characteristics of character to suit the actor.
He said, “I wanted Prateik because we needed a fresh face for the film. The protagonist here is a bit aggressive. I have changed the character a bit to suit Prateik’s image, since he is very vulnerable and endearing,”
