Malcolm Harbour, West Midlands Conservative MEP has welcomed the news that Birmingham City Council has secured over £8m in EU grants to support small and medium sized businesses. The new grant programme is aimed at encouraging the improvement and development of key vacant, derelict or underused properties for economic use, supporting investment, growth and jobs. Mr Harbour said: “This is really good news for Birmingham businesses, especially in Digbeth, the Jewellery Quarter, Tyseley and the East and North Birmingham industrial corridors where the grant applies. “The intended end use of the building needs to be for manufacturing and processing or office uses, and I’m sure the demand for the grants will be very strong.”
