Businesses must ‘get with apprenticeships’ in order to secure economic certainty for theUKsay WestMidlandsbusiness leaders.
Michael Ward, president of Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Group (BCCG) said: “To be competitive in a global economy we can’t afford to have a workforce with poor qualifications. Apprenticeships provide the skilled workers we need for a prosperous future. What companies don’t always realise is that apprenticeships aren’t just for new workers. Businesses can upskill their existing workforce by offering them an apprenticeship.”
“The Chamber is working with further education colleges throughout theMidlandsand we now need companies to take up the offers of advice and support.”
Statistics by the National Apprenticeship Service show that apprenticeships are good for business. Eighty per cent of businesses who employ apprentices agree that they make the workplace more productive.
Chamber members like JaguarLandRover, Birmingham Hippodrome and St. John’s Hotel inSolihullhave taken on apprentices and claim excellent results.
Mike Ward added: “The Government has taken the right step in launching the two new apprenticeship incentives today. We would urge businesses to take advantage of the schemes on offer.”
