Local businesses have welcomed the launch of the UK’s first 4G mobile service with excitement, as it will enable them to offer faster, enhanced services to customers.
The new service, launched today by mobile network EE has first been introduced to 11 major cities across the UK, including Birmingham. Additional areas being introduced by Christmas. The company has promised speeds up to five times faster than 3G services currently used by most mobile phones.
Dan Wagner, CEO and chairman of mobile payments company mPowa, said, “The introduction of 4G has come at a great time for businesses across Birmingham. We’re looking for growth across the board and the technology ecosystem will be central in enabling business to develop new ideas. We’re starting to see some very innovative uses for mobile phones but many of these innovations will need faster connections to cope with the greater reliance on resource-hungry applications.”
Dan, with his company mPowa, is currently working with companies across the country to help them accept credit cards using their mobile phones and mobile internet is a vital part of the infrastructure that makes his service function.
He concluded, “The introduction of 4G communicates the message that mobile devices are a central platform for doing business on the go and that’s also why I created mPowa. Businesses don’t want to be tied down to a fixed location and so a mobile broadband connection that is reliable, faster and affective will allow them to work flexibly.”
