A man accused of murdering Smethwick woman Glynis Bensley will appear before Wolverhampton Crown Court this morning (15 Sept).
Unemployed Zoheb Majib of Cheshire Road, Smethwick was arrested by detectives in the Highgate area of Birmingham on Thursday night (11 September).
The 20-year-old briefly appeared before Wolverhampton magistrates on Saturday where he was remanded in custody to appear before the city’s crown court today for a committal hearing.
News of his appearance comes as a 14-year-old boy arrested in connection with Ms Bensley’s death, and who had been on police bail, was excluded from the investigation and will face no further action.
Ms Bensley, 47, was found in Cheshire Road just before 11.50pm on Wednesday 3 September. A post mortem confirmed she died of head injuries.
A 13-year-old boy was arrested and charged with her murder and remanded into secure accommodation following his brief court appearance last week while a 21-year-old Smethwick man arrested on 10 September on suspicion of assisting an offender remains on police bail pending further enquiries.
Anyone with information about Ms Bensley’s death should contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers confidentially on 0800 555 111.
