Candle Light Vigil observed at Pakistan High Commission London.
The Pakistan High Commission London observed a Candle Light Vigil at its premises last evening to pay homage to martyrs of Pakistan, both military and civil, who have offered the supreme sacrifice for the homeland. The event was held pursuant to the Government’s decision to commemorate the auspicious occasion of 68th Independence Day of Pakistan by arranging various month long activities during August.
Speaking on the occasion, Acting High Commissioner Mohammad Imran Mirza said:
“These martyrs have laid down their lives to kindle the light of freedom and made the idea of a democratic Pakistan possible. Tonight we profoundly acknowledge their courage and valour and pray to Almighty to honour their sacrifices and to bless our motherland.”
The Acting High Commissioner said that in face of the menace of extremism and militancy, the spirit of sacrifice and resilience of our people and armed forces remained undiminished, and the nation was standing behind the armed forces to root out extremism and militancy from our soil. He further said that Pakistan had a bright and democratic future as people of Pakistan had expressed their faith in democratic values by electing a democratic government.
A large number of Pakistani community and representatives of media attended the Vigil.
The High Commission has planned extended Independence Day celebrations that will continue during the whole month of August.
