Miss Bangladesh has created history. You must be wondering how. Let’s break the mystery then!! She became the first Miss Universe from an Asian Muslim country.
Miss Bangladesh Universe Shirin Akter Shela was crowned at a glittering ceremony by former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen. By achieving this feat; she has become the first contestant from a Muslim majority country in South Asia to compete for this prestigious title of Miss Universe.
It also must be brought to your notice that there were quite a few Muslim contestants in the past. But those participants were from the Middle East or Africa.
The contest was held in Dhaka, and Shirin beat beauty queens, namely Alisha Islam and Jessia Islam. She is a third-year physics student at the University of Dhaka. Shirin proved that she is not just about beauty, but she also brains. She wowed the judges with her style and her intelligence. Her father is a member of the Border Guard Bangladesh. She developed a patriotic zeal by watching her father fight for the country.
During the pageant, Shirin revealed that her father was a big inspiration in her life. She mentioned that she wanted to do something to better the condition of Bangladesh. This, however, began with her winning the title of Miss Universe Bangladesh. She was also announced as the best female model in the Face of Bangladesh 2019 contest. In 2018 Shirin took part in Miss Bangladesh World and got selected in the top ten contestants.
In 2019, she represented Bangladesh at Face of Asia 2019. This event was organised in Seoul, South Korea.
Shirin began her journey in July 2019 for Miss Universe Bangladesh. More than 12,000 participants applied for this title. Bangladesh is the first Asian country with a Muslim majority to be successful in the Miss Universe contest.
Shirin will be representing Bangladesh at the 68th edition of Miss Universe which will take place on 8th December at Atlanta, Georgia. Top models from 130 countries will be participating in the main event.
