Diwali 2011 sees the release of Bollywood’s first major production on an Indian superhero. Ra.One stars Shah Rukh Khan, Arjun Rampal and Kareena Kapoor.
Ra. One is to date, the most expensive Bollywood film costing a whopping 150 crores and is to be released in both 2D and 3D. The film has been highly anticipated by critics and fans all overIndia. It is also rumoured that a Playstation game based on the film is to be released before the film itself.
The films plot has not been released in great detail in order to build up anticipation for fans wishing to see it. From what directors and actors in the film have revealed themselves, the film follows the story of a software engineer played by Shah Rukh Khan who designs a game; it is not yet fully known whether or not the upcoming story will take place within the game or within the real world. Reportedly Sanjay Dutt will be making a cameo appearance in the film as well as Priyanka Chopra. Khan revealed in an interview during his appearance on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, two years ago, that Jackie Chan was offered a part in the film but it had later been revealed that the action superstar would not be a part of the project.
Director Anubav Sinha reportedly wrote the script for the film six years ago then approaching Khan with the script, Khan agreed to the project and was signed up for the main part and also as producer of the film. Seemingly, huge amounts of time and effort have been spent on this production. It has been dubbed into different languages, involved a crew of over 5000 people all fromIndia,Italyand theUSand is one of the first Bollywood productions to be seen in 3D on release.
