‘Profound, funny and completely heart-breaking’

Write, actor and broadcaster, Rhik Samadder, is set to publish his novel ‘I Never Said I Loved You’ later this year on the 8th August. The story is based on Rhik’s struggle with depression and also his journey into hope and love for life.

The story starts on an unlikely backpacking trip with Rhik and his mother where they find themselves opening up to each other for the first time in years. These conversations open up new pathways for Rhik as we follow his journey of recovery from depression through his investigation of it. In the novel, he begins to explore how he came to be in the position he was in, how he could overcome the darkness that pulled him under, and also how people around him were eventually affected by his behaviour. The book takes the readers on a journey across generations while also being described as “a chartered voyage through the seas of [Rhik’s] mental health.”

As Rhik uncovers shocking truths about his family and also brings to light secrets he has long buried, he begins to overcome his fears which then bring his depression to light. Through this, Rhik learns to let go of these burdens and move forward. Many readers may be able to relate to Rhik’s path, therefore, inspiring them to also follow in his steps to recovery.

This book presents a fresh and important voice in narrative non-fiction, which many can relate to. With Rhik’s unique humour and incredible honesty, he has created a powerful, funny and touching piece which helps to explore the dark and light in us all.
