The Lloyds Banking Group is closing 60 locations, such as on Smethwick High Street.

Due to an increase in digital banking, Lloyds Banking Group has announced the closure of 60 bank locations, comprising two in the region.

The Lloyd Banks branch on Smethwick’s High Street will shut on July 21.

It has announced the closure of 24 Lloyds Bank, 19 Bank of Scotland, and 17 Halifax branches across the UK.

Lloyds stated that it intends to provide all impacted employees a new position.

The decision was prompted by a rise in internet banking industry in recent years, but branch footfall has decreased, according to the corporation.

In addition, a facility in Shrewsbury will close.

“Along with many other elevated companies, less clients are opting to come to our facilities,” said Vim Maru, corporate retail manager at Lloyds Banking Group.

“While our number of branches is a vital tool for us to service our customers, we must respond to the considerable surge in consumers who choose to do the majority of their daily internet banking.”

The Unite union claimed that the news will result in the loss of 124 jobs, which a Lloyds representative did not refute, but did say that the business was working to find personnel opportunities in other places.
