A murder investigation has opened up after a 23-year-old man who was left fighting for his life died in hospital.
The man suffered critical injuries, before he passed away on September 22nd 2019.
The 23-year-old was assaulted outside Iceland near a row of shops in Maypole, following a row with occupants of a passing car around 4.40pm on Thursday 19th September.
The man’s family are receiving support by a specially trained officers. One man has been charged with connection to the investigation, although it is believed that two people were involved in the assault.
Detective Inspector Stuart Mobberley, from Homicide department, said: “This is now a murder enquiry, and our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones at this tragic time.”
“We have charged one person in connection with what happened, and that charge will be reviewed in due course.”
“This is still very much an active investigation, and I’d appeal to anyone who was involved in what happened to hand themselves in before we arrest them.”
“If anyone saw what happened and has not yet spoken to police, we need to hear from them as soon as possible.”

Jamie Taylor, aged 21 of Tidworth Croft, Kings Heath, appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court on Saturday 21st September charged with wounding.
