A man has died after a freak accident involving an electric chair occurred at Vue Cinema in Star City

A man has died after a freak accident involving an electric chair occurred at Vue Cinema in Star City in early March. The accident occurred when the cinema goer attempted to retrieve his phone from between the Gold Class seats in the cinema, where the electric seat’s footrest reportedly clamped down on his head causing serious injury.

The victim’s partner and staff attempted to release him, the seat’s footrest was eventually broken and he was quickly taken the Heartlands Hospital. A spokesman for Vue Cinema stated: “Following an incident
which took place on Friday 9 March at our Birmingham cinema, we can confirm that a customer was taken to the hospital that evening.

We are saddened to learn that he passed away on Friday 16 March. A full investigation into the nature of the incident is ongoing. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family who have our full support
and assistance.”

Head of Environmental Health at Birmingham City Council, Mark Croxford, said: “The City Council’s
Environmental Health team were notified of this incident and a Health and Safety investigation has begun. We are unable to comment further at this stage, as the investigation is ongoing.”
