Amidst the lingering fears of the corona virus, the interesting news of twins which were named Covid and Corona after the deadly virus has gathered the attraction of people all across the globe. The twins – a boy and a girl – were born in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh during the on-going 21 day long nationwide lockdown on 27th march.

According to Preeti and Vinay – the parents of twins – the delivery happened after facing several difficulties and therefore we wanted to make the day memorable. They further said that the name would remind them of this day and the hardships they faced while heading to hospital. The on-going 21 days nationwide lockdown has resulted in the suspension of all sorts of transport. So, the ambulance that carried them to hospital was stopped several times on road by police. Moreover, the family members didn’t visit them because the country was under lockdown. The babies were born within 45 minutes of the couple’s arrival to the hospital on march 27.

Right after the delivery, the hospital staff started calling the babies corona and covid, so we finally decided to name them after pandemic, added the mother of the twins.

The twins were born at Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar memorial hospital in the state capital, Raipur. The couple is originally from Uttar Pradesh but live in a rented house in the Purani Basti area of the city.
