The love story between Big B and Jaya Ji is one that goes back to decades. It all started almost 50 years ago when the megastar couple met on the set of film Guddi in 1971. They went on to collaborate on several other hits together, including Khabi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Silsila, Mili, Abhimaan, Sholay and Chupke Chupke.

Jaya Bachan described in an earlier interview, how she was immediately taken aback by her husband when she first met him. She reflects: “I was introduced to him on the sets of Guddi.. I was impressed by him and somewhat in awe as he was Harivanshrai Bachchan’s son. I felt he was different, though people laughed at me when I said that. I expressed my feelings and said he’s going to make it big, even though I was aware he wasn’t the usual stereotype hero. I fell in love with him very soon.”

The couple very recently celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. They were married in May of 1973, at a shotgun monsoon wedding. Mr Bachan has recollected that he wanted to take Jaya with him to London in order to celebrate the then new release of his film Zanjeer. However, he received a letter from his father Harivansh Rai Bachan demanding that the pair be married immediately before the trip took place.

“Who all are going came the query from Babuji… names disclosed ‘Jaya is also going with you… you both are alone… yes… if you have to go, marry and go’,” Big B wrote on his blog post. Thus, the couple were married on rainy afternoon just hours before their departing flight.

The couple’s son Abhishek Bachan took to Instagram to mark the happy occasion of his Mother and Father’s wedding anniversary with a touching snapshot. He captioned the image: “Happy Anniversary to the parentals! Love you both eternally. #46andcounting.” The pair also share daughter Shweta together.
