Former ‘Blue Peter’ presenter, Konnie Huq, is set to publish a series of children’s books, starting with Cookie and the Most Annoying Boy in the World. According to Bonnier Books, the book “marks the start of a brand new hilarious series for young readers and introduces the world to Cookie Haque – nine years old, obsessed with science and ready to take on the world… Or at least she thinks she is.”
Konnie Huq bases her novel around Cookie, who is from a Bangladeshi family and gets herself into constant scrapes. The cast within the story are incredibly entertaining, from tedious teachers to irritating classmates, the Cookie books relate to anyone who has been through school.
Konnie Huq states, “When I was growing up, I always felt a bit like I didn’t quite fit in, a feeling that perhaps still lingers in the background to this very day! I was the small brown girl in the big white suburb. I liked science and maths but liked drama too, and, boy… does Cookie like a bit of drama?!”
Not only does the book contain humour that will have readers laughing out loud, but also consists of STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) learning, which is valuable to young readers.
Younger readers will be able to relate to Cookie and be amused at the scenarios she gets herself in. Konnie said, “Writing these books is very close to my heart. It’s so important to get kids enthused at a young age not only with reading but also a good sense of humour and even a touch of the anarchic. The Cookie books do all this while telling a real, relatable story about growing up, friendship and staying true to yourself. Plus, I’ve thrown in a bit of STEM learning – geeky habits die hard…”
Bubbling with energy and fun, the Cookie books are essential reading for anyone in the 8-12-year-old age group and is set the release on 8th August 2019.
