Though the internet as a technology and service does not have a long-standing history as others, still it has penetrated our lives that others haven’t. It was invented on January 1, 1983, used primarily for military purposes, later it expanded to the purpose of communication among scientists and now the general public. The way the internet has evolved over the years by becoming a necessity from being a luxury defines its potential.
2020 can be termed as a next step towards the usage of the internet. It has become much more than a service used to communicate and entertain. Breaking the chains of its limited use, it has now become a tool to coordinate and complete the other necessary tasks. After the COVID-19 outbreak, usage of the internet has increased by more than 25% over diverse platforms and niches. Video calls have replaced face-to-face interaction with colleagues, family, and friends alike. More people started using video-conferencing software like Zoom. Grocery purchases have shifted to online medium even in the developing nations. “Work from home” initiative has turned the office on the internet mode. The New York Times state “We have suddenly become reliant on services that allow us to work and learn from home”
Surely the internet will show up some more hidden positive aspects of itself that will help us ease our lives and change the way we live, work, and entertain ourselves.
