Jamaica has announced its official recognition of Palestine as a state, citing concerns over Israel’s ongoing conflict in Gaza and the humanitarian crisis there. Kamina Johnson Smith, Jamaica’s Foreign Minister, confirmed the decision on Wednesday, emphasizing alignment with the United Nations Charter’s principles promoting mutual respect, peaceful co-existence, and self-determination.
“By recognizing the State of Palestine, Jamaica strengthens its advocacy for a peaceful solution,” Smith stated. She reaffirmed Jamaica’s support for the two-state solution as the most viable path to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
