Brother and sister Hamza and Emaan Asghar are two siblings who have made their mark in the kickboxing and taekwondo world.
The siblings have been attending the Bolton Dragons, and British Taekwondo School (BTS) since they were young as ‘their mum wanted them to do something.’
Emaan, aged 13, is currently on Team GB for kickboxing, while Hamza, aged 11, is eager to secure a place on the Junior Olympic Team for Taekwondo 2019.
“All my friends think it’s really cool,” said Emaan who attends Pleckgate High School with her brother.
Both siblings are black belt 1st Dan’s and both have competed all over Europe. Their next big event is at the Golden Glove, Italy in January 2020.
Emaan has recently won a bronze medal at the WAKO European Kicking Championships in Budapest, where she represented Team GB in the -42kg category and she is currently No.1 in GB in the same weight division.
She said, “I was so proud to win a bronze medal. I love representing Team GB, and we train together once a month.”
“The World Championships are in Serbia next year, and I want to do well in them too.”
“There are talks about kickboxing becoming an Olympic sport and my dream is to go to the Olympics.”
Hamza has recently won a host of trophies and medals, including winning the YOKOSHO Dutch Open. He also came in second during the British Taekwondo Championships in Manchester in the -32kg category. Hamza has also won the first of three GB Grand Slams in Kickboxing, and if he does well in all three tournaments, then he will be called up to the Team GB Squad.
Hamza said, “We have cardboard boxes full of medals and trophies in our house.”
“It’s good that we get to travel all over Europe doing something we enjoy.”
