The cricket player has become the first to score a century on both Test matches and one-day debuts
In the first Pakistani home match in a decade, opening batsman Abid Ali left spectators in awe. The debuting Test cricketer scored a century in rain-affected pitch conditions against the Sri Lankan team.
Abid scored a never before seen 109 off 201 balls. The 32-yer-old hit for a boundary then completed a hundred. He was seen throwing his hands up in their air as a victory celebration and then kneeling his head on the ground in prayer.
Earlier, Sri Lanka had already made their first innings when the sun had been shining brightly on the playing field. They had successfully made a 308-6 in bright sunlight. After this, bad weather had severely affected the match, permitting only 9 ½ overs within the first three days of the competition.
In the match, Pakistan-side player Babar Azam also achieved his third Test century off-spin bowler Dilruwan Perera. He added 87 runs to the game. Both he and Abid received massive applause from the crowd before the match came to an end.
Abid thrilled 12,000 cricket-keen home fans at Pindi Cricket Stadium with a range of excellent shots on both sides of the wicket. Pakistan had a score of 252-2 before the match was called off.
More than ten years ago, Sri Lanka was the last team to play a test match on Pakistani turf. During their visit, terrorists attacked the touring team’s bus in Lahore during March of 2009. The ambush killed eight people and left many Sri Lankan players and officials gravely injured.
Since then and up until now, Pakistan has been scheduling its home test matches on neutral territory, mainly in the United Arab Emirates.
