The festival will be made up of four live streamed vocal concerts and three original charity singles.
Beginning on Thursday 17th June with ‘Big Sing’ and continuing every Thursday until 8th July, Walsall Music Hub will share performances on their YouTube channel, which are free to enjoy. The links for the videos will be posted in the Facebook event that has been set up.
Although vocal concerts would ordinarily take place inside Walsall Arena and Arts Centre, students of Walsall Music Hub are currently preparing for four live performances on YouTube for this year’s Summer Singing Festival. This won’t be the first time the hub have hosted a virtual performance, their YouTube Christmas concert ‘Walsall’s Winter Wishlist’ in December 2020 was a huge success and exhibited their ability to put on an engaging and uplifting show despite current circumstances. The concert can be revisited here.
Additionally, three of the concerts will feature a brand new song written for the event which will then be released on all major streaming services. All three songs have been written with children’s mental health in mind, with proceeds being donated d to Young Minds, the UK’s leading mental health charity for young people. The Music Hub have enlisted the help of local rap artist VITAL, who has written and recorded a verse for the Big Sing release, and the Infant Singing Festivalrelease was co-written by year one students at Radleys Primary School.
Vocal Coordinator James Maddison, who has been working hard to organise the first three concerts, explains “We really enjoyed the Christmas concert and received a lot of amazing feedback so we’re confident that the Summer Singing Festival will achieve the same success. We’re proud to be supporting Young Minds who’s work we think is really important. The charity singles are really special, we can’t wait for you to hear them.”
