A notice outside of the butcher’s shop a few days after the incident announced that the premises would be closed to the public for some time. It read: “Shop will be closed 3 days due to fatality.” It also informed those wishing to pay their respects that they could do so at Zia ul Quran Masjid, which is the local Mosque on Alum Rock Road.
The deceased was nicknamed ‘Zamy’ and will be a strongly missed member of the surrounding community. He is believed to have lived in the apartment above the butcher’s and was well-liked by the fellow shop-owners in the area.
