Speeding driver who killed a woman has been jailed for 18 months
Mohammed Shameel, 34, hit Noreen Akhtar, 38, as she was getting into her car. After the crash that took place on Stratford Road, Birmingham, the West Midlands Police force stated that he “drove away without thought”.
Shameel pleaded guilty and admitted to causing death by careless driving and was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court. He was driving between a 33-36mph speed when the crash took place, and his vehicle was found abandoned near his home in Penshaw, Mosely, a week after the accident, with a damaged windscreen, wing and headlight.
Paul Hughes, a collision investigator, said “He drove away from the scene without a second thought for Mrs Akhtar who tragically died as a result of her injuries.
“We can only hope the fact he must serve a prison sentence will provide a small sense of comfort to the victim’s family.”
