Sandwell Labour councillors and activists, along with Anas Sarwar MSP, Leader of the Scottish Labour Party, came together to mark the Eid event. Richard Parker, addressing the gathering, highlighted the significance of community engagement and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in strengthening our communities.
Councillor Rizwan Jalil expressed his gratitude for Anas Sarwar’s presence at this year’s Eid celebrations, acknowledging that Anas Sarwar MSP is the first Muslim and person of colour to lead a major political party in the UK.
Anas Sarwar addressed the audience, reflecting on the tragic events unfolding in the Middle East over the past six months, stressing the loss of countless innocent lives. He emphasized the equal value of every life, whether Palestinian, Israeli, Jewish, Muslim, or Christian.
Both Anas Sarwar and Richard Parker have been advocating for an immediate ceasefire to halt the violence on all fronts, the prompt release of hostages, immediate access to humanitarian aid, and a clear path towards a two-state solution. Their aim is to ensure that the people of Palestine and Israel can coexist in peace, security, and dignity, deserving of their aspirations.
