Faiza Mirza’s ‘Cinderella: An adaptation of a classic fairy tale’ zeroes in on the jealousy and flaws of the evil stepmother and ugly stepsisters, as Ms Mirza retells the classic story of Cinderella in a wholly-original, novel way. Capitalizing on the all-female environment of Cinderella’s plight, Author Faiza Mirza will have readers chortling and spitting out their tea long after they’ve arrived at the ball.
While many fairly tales’ origins can be traced back hundreds of years, Cinderella was first conceived in the ancient Greek story of ‘Rhodopis’. It’s a story as old as time itself!
Therefore, in the eyes of inventive British author Faiza Mirza, it was well overdue for a retelling; an adaption for modern audiences with a love story that proves that everyone has a soulmate.
In ‘Cinderella: An adaptation of a classic fairy tale’, Ms Mirza does exactly that with gusto.
Synopsis:
If you wish upon a star your dreams just may come true. That night Cinderella slept underneath the twinkling and scintillating stars that shone across the palace gardens, dreaming she met a Prince. A soft dusting of moonlight and starlight illuminated her old palace as the young girl dreamt of love’. Debut Author Faiza Mirza’s has adapted the classic fairy tale of Cinderella. As Cinderella ‘dreams beneath the stars’ she dreads the moment she wakes up. Cinderella has to live a life of forced despondency and servitude as the evil stepmother and her two wicked evil stepsisters create webs which trap Cinderella. Author Faiza Mirza can do nothing but crystalise and cement their ‘fate’ as characters here to be lampooned and ridiculed only. Through the book she derides and mock’s their flaws, bringing forward the consequences of too much jealousy and control. Yes! A hilarious and satirical take on the classic fairytale. Cinderella is a heroine who is relinquished after a chance meeting with the beautiful and enchanting fairy godmother!
“My goal was to keep all of the hallmarks from the original story that keep readers cherishing it, while taking a new spin on the characters, their world and particularly the devious nature of the all-female environment,” explains the author. “It’s incredibly funny, irreverent and pulls no punches when stooping to the ridiculous.”
Continuing, “It’s a book for traditional fairy tale lovers, as well as fans of modern fiction who want a new love story with its roots in a timeless classic. It’s a book for everyone!”
