Birmingham City Council is proud to spotlight the continued success of its Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, Bring it on Brum! as the Department for Education confirms future funding.

Since its launch, Birmingham’s HAF programme has provided thousands of children and young people with enriching activities, nutritious meals, and safe spaces to learn, play and grow. Designed for children aged 5 to 16 who are eligible for free school meals, the programme has become a vital lifeline for families across the city, especially during high-pressure holiday periods.

Delivered during spring, summer, and winter holidays, Bring it on Brum! offers a wide range of enriching experiences, including:

  • Sports, dance, and outdoor play
  • Arts and crafts, music, and drama
  • Cooking workshops and nutrition education
  • STEM activities and nature exploration

These sessions are hosted by hundreds of trusted local providers, including schools, community organisations, and faith groups, ensuring that children have access to safe, inclusive, and engaging environments close to home.

The programme also supports parents and carers by offering:

  • Free meals for children during holidays
  • Guidance on healthy eating and budgeting
  • Access to wider family support services

Councillor Mick Brown, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Families, said: “I am delighted by the impact the Holiday Activity and Food Programme is having on our children and young people. It ensures they have experiences they might otherwise miss due to a range of circumstances. These activities support their wellbeing and provide much-needed respite for parents and carers.

“The HAF programme has shown how Birmingham can come together to support those in need. While many look forward to school holidays, too many families worry about how they’ll cope. This programme gives children access to opportunities they wouldn’t otherwise have, and that’s something we’re incredibly proud of.”

With continued funding secured and support of the Department for Education, along with strong partnerships with local organisations, Birmingham City Council remains committed to expanding the reach and impact of Bring it on Brum! ensuring every eligible child has the chance to thrive during the holidays.
