Here’s a list of the year’s 22 unmissable titles:
1. RRR: The blockbuster film of 2022 is the tale of two revolutionaries of pre-independent India, Alluri Sitaram Raju and Komaram Bheem fighting their battles against the British Raj. It has been receiving much appreciation from all over the world and is available in the original language Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada along with English subtitles.
2. Karthikeya 2: This action-packed, adventure thriller, available in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil tells the tale of Dr Karthikeya, who gets embroiled in a dangerous search for an ancient anklet belonging to Lord Krishna.
3. The Broken News: The adaptation of the British series ‘Press’. It is the story of two rival news channels Josh 24×7 and Awaaz Bharti News with polarising ideologies and a dynamic journalist with an uncertain future, Radha Bhargava’s attempts to balance their lives. Along with Hindi, it is available in Tamil and Telugu.
4. Mrs & Mr Shameem: This Pakistani drama has a unique plot with an empowering message. It is the tale of two best friends Shameem and Umaina who marry each other, but this marital bliss is disrupted by the obligation to abide by societal norms.
5. Tripling – Season 3: Tripling is a comical tale of three siblings- Chandan, Chanchal and Chitvan surviving through unusual scenarios. This time, what brings them together under one roof is the issue of their parents’ separation.
6. Saas Bahu Achaar Pvt. Ltd.: This drama beautifully captures the ambitious journey of a housewife Suman and her zeal to become a successful entrepreneur and provide for her kids.
7. The Kashmir Files: Available in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Indian Sign Language, this critically acclaimed film charts the political climate in Kashmir in the 1990s.
8. Dharmaveer: Mukkam Post Thane: Marathi biopic based on the life of a Hindu nationalist and Shiv Sena leader Anand Dighe and his devotion towards the welfare of the people of Thane in Maharashtra. You can also enjoy this title in Hindi and with English subtitles.
9. Vilangu: Vilangu is a seven-episode-long Tamil crime drama mystery. It is the story of an honest cop, Paridhi racing against time to solve a case that has baffled the entire Police department.
10. Mukhbir – The Story of a Spy: Available in Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu; this spy thriller is an adaptation of retired Joint Director of the Intelligence Bureau Maloy Krishna Dhar’s novel, ‘Mission to Pakistan: An Intelligence Agent in Pakistan’ following the life of a secret agent who led India to evade several aggressive advances from the enemy country.
11. Rangbaaz: Darr Ki Rajneeti: This crime action drama traces the rise and fall of ‘Saheb’ Haroon Shah Ali Baig, a gangster-turned-politician, who was much loved and feared in Bihar. It is available in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
12. Hello World: This rom-com drama available in Telugu and Tamil exhibits the struggles of eight youngsters who join a renowned IT company. However, their excitement is short-lived when they realise that life has more in store for them than they had imagined.
13. Jhund: It is the biopic of Vijay Barse, a retired sports teacher, who starts an NGO called Slum Soccer to help rehabilitate slum kids by turning them into football players.
14. Duranga: Duranga is an adaptation of the Korean crime drama ‘Flower of Evil’. It follows Inspector Ira’s investigation of a series of copycat murders which leads her to Sammit, her husband and an ideal family man.
15. Vikrant Rona: This thriller follows the investigation of a series of murders by inspector Vikrant Rona. For his investigation, he arrives at a mysterious village that hints at the murders being committed by some supernatural being.
16. Bimbisara: Telugu Action Fantasy is the tale of King Bimbisara of the Trigartala Empire from the 5th century BC, who lands in the modern-day world through time travel. It is available in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
17. Janhit Mein Jaari: It is the comical tale of a small-town girl from Madhya Pradesh, Manokamna who, in order to achieve her goal of becoming independent takes up the job of a condom salesperson and conducts workshops on promoting safe sex.
18. Paappan: It is a crime thriller drama of an ex-cop who is reinstated to assist his estranged daughter and hunt down a serial killer who always manages to stay one step ahead.
19. Forensic: This crime mystery ZEE5 Global original film revolves around Police officer Megha and forensic officer Johnny’s attempt to nab the killer of little girls who disappear in the town of Mussoorie.
20. Main Viyah Nahi Karona Tere Naal: Punjabi rom-com Main Viyah Nahi Karona Tere Naal is a tale of a Canadian YouTuber who visits Punjab and falls in love with a quintessential Indian girl who eventually helps him discover his roots.
21. Raksha Bandhan: This comedy-drama is a tale of Lala Kedarnath who is blessed with 4 sisters and is worried to find suitable grooms for each of them, only then can he marry his childhood love.
22. Valimai: Available in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi, this action crime thriller follows ACP Arjun on a mission to capture a gang of criminals. But things take a complex turn when his mission conflicts with his family’s safety.
