Sandwell Council has once again been rated a top employer for apprentices, scoring a place in the top 70 employers of school leavers in the UK.
The ‘Top 150’ Listing is compiled by allaboutschoolleavers.co.uk and is the largest national awards ceremony where winners are decided based entirely on feedback from apprentices.
Apprentices completed surveys analysing everything about their employers and training programmes, from skills development and career progression to training and company culture.
Sandwell Council has risen an impressive 14 places to rank 67th in the listings; up from 81st in 2019.
Councillor Rajbir Singh, cabinet member for skills and employment, said: “Being in the top 150 puts Sandwell Council among some of the biggest employers in the country with the likes of McDonald’s, Boeing and Bentley Motors.
“I’m delighted we have been given such good feedback from school leavers who are doing apprenticeships with us. This demonstrates what a great place Sandwell is to start your career with an apprenticeship.”
Deputy Leader of Sandwell Council, Councillor Maria Crompton added: “Creating a skilled and talented workforce from our local young people is one of the top priorities in the council’s Vision for 2030.
“We want to make as many opportunities as possible – like apprenticeships – available to our local young people to help them feel equipped and build their skills and confidence so they can go on to rewarding jobs.
“I would like to say well done to everyone involved, we’re very proud of this and it’s great we are not only in the Top 150 but the Top 70!”
