He takes sightseeing flights in a Cessna 172 over his hometown of Dresden, Germany, when he isn’t flying the large aircraft. It’s a fantastic method for him to see his hometown throughout the year and practice his manual flying skills.

In addition to his active flying career, he made significant investments in aviation photography. This year, he conducted a few helicopter photo shoots over the airports in Los Angeles, San Diego, and Cape Town. He thoroughly loved capturing the distinctive vistas he saw there. He uses Facebook and Instagram for social media, which is a terrific way to share his love of aviation with others, especially the pictures and videos he takes from the cockpit.

Q.) How did you begin your piloting career?

Pilot Felix:  I had never been trained to fly until I enrolled in flight school. As a child, I truly enjoyed being at the airport and watching planes, but I had no idea how anything worked. Fortunately, I was accepted into the esteemed Lufthansa Flight School in Bremen, Germany, which at the time trained all Lufthansa pilots. After a year of theoretical study, we were able to fly the twin-propeller Piper Cheyenne back in Germany and the Beech Bonanza F33A aircraft out of Phoenix in the Arizona desert. I was enrolled in the Airbus A320 simulator training a few weeks after clearing all flight school exams. I reached a large jet cockpit in two years, despite the challenging learning curve!

Q.) What steps did you take last year to increase your piloting knowledge?

Pilot Felix:  As a pilot, you are always learning new things. Regulations are always changing, as are new technical systems on the ground or in airplanes. In addition to the minimum of five simulator missions we complete annually, we also regularly receive training on emergency protocols, crew resource management (CRM), firefighting, and first aid. Our company also regularly briefs and updates us on the most recent advancements. Thus, learning never truly ends! You may be certain that you will never know everything if you add to your flying experience by learning something new on each flight.

Q.) Describe your accomplishment.

Pilot Felix:  My biggest success is bringing all my passengers securely from A to B in a comfortable manner. It sounds extremely straightforward and uninteresting, but every flight involves so many different people and stakeholders that my biggest delight in flying is to finish a trip uneventfully! As a photographer I am particularly delighted to have gone back to the business after having a sabbatical for several years and to even have created my own aviation calendar for 2026 with some of my finest photos.

Q.) Which career would you have chosen if you weren’t a pilot?

Pilot Felix:  Prior to wanting to become a pilot, I thought about being an air traffic controller. It’s not unusual for controllers and pilots to be interested in each other’s work and apply for both positions at the same time. I also thought about flying for the military, but I have no regrets about flying for airlines. But I’ll be a gardener and work with plants and nature in my second life!

Q.) What do you think is the most important component of a successful career?

Pilot Felix:  With commitment and diligence, anyone can succeed in any career within certain bounds. Everybody starts from a different place in terms of their upbringing, educational opportunities, financial status, etc. You won’t always achieve your objectives. Sometimes you’re merely in the wrong place at the wrong moment due to bad luck. However, you can succeed if you get back up and put in more effort. I have seen that it is possible to fail and learn from your mistakes in order to improve the following time. This is an entrepreneurial way of thinking. Overall, though, you must find joy and passion in your work. You won’t be able to be the best unless you do.

Q.) What is the first thing you think about when you board a plane to fly?

Pilot Felix:  When I board my plane, the first thing that comes to mind is that I now have responsibility. Responsibility not just for the crew and our customers, but also for a very costly piece of machinery. Since so many people depend on me at work, it is my responsibility to give it my all every day.

As a passenger I usually check for my surroundings, so I know how to get out in an emergency – pilot are always prepared for the worse (even if it never happens) and are always a few steps ahead of everything so as not to be surprised when something unforeseen happens.

Q.) What is the most important thing for passengers to remember while taking a flight?

Pilot Felix:  Unsettling footage of passengers misbehaving are becoming more and more common on social media. Although flying is not as luxurious as it once was, I still enjoy seeing people travel “in style.” Put on a nice shirt, maybe some shoes, and make an effort to be a decent person. Sitting in a cabin allows people to be physically close to one another for extended periods of time, which makes life easier for everyone if you are polite, understanding, and respectful of one another. Please be mindful of the incredibly intricate procedure that goes into each flight and the numerous individuals that contribute to its success. The fact that a massive aircraft like my Boeing 747 can transport hundreds of people around the globe is quite amazing. And even if things don’t go according to plan, flying is still an exciting kind of transportation that we should treasure.

Aside from that, it’s always a good idea to come prepared. How will I spend the next several hours comfortably? Where is my gate? Where is my seat? In addition, what is the temperature like where I’m going, and should I pack a jacket?

Q.) What guidance would you give the aspiring pilots?

Pilot Felix: For new pilots, life can be challenging. You might not be able to get your ideal job straight now because hour building is costly. First and foremost, be practical. Can you afford flying school? What would you do if something goes wrong? Make a backup plan. It might not be your fault because you might have a health problem or the economy simply takes a few years to improve. However, will you be able to sustain yourself? What other courses would you be more willing to pursue? Work on these subjects initially.

Second, have fun at flight school! This period will mold you and your flying career for the rest of your life, but it is a lot of work, not always simple, and you will make mistakes! Even though you might feel under pressure, it’s okay to enjoy yourself! Ask your instructor to organize a mission to the airstrip you’ve always wanted to visit or perhaps do an additional mission to practice upset recoveries. Do something you enjoy. Q.) You’re an accomplished pilot. What motivated you to work in the aviation sector?

Captain Chris: My inspiration started when I was twelve years old and allowed inside the cockpit of a Trans Australian Airways Boeing 727 whilst on a family vacation flight from Melbourne to Coolangatta. Something just snapped as I stood there among rows of analogue dials, switches, and instruments, listening to the aircraft’s steady hum and observing the three-person flight crew’s composed, confident professionalism. At that point, flying ceased to be a mystery and turned into a vocation. That brief encounter sparked a dream that took me from working paper rounds and grocery store jobs to paying for my flying lessons and leading long-haul aircraft over six continents for more than four decades. The special combination of accuracy, accountability, teamwork, and privilege that comes with flying, coupled with the chance to constantly learn, instruct, and inspire others along the way, is what inspired me then and continues to inspire me now.

Q.) Are flights impacted by the holiday season?  If so, in what way?

Captain Chris: Indeed, the holiday season has an increasing effect on flights every year. Traditional holiday seasons now overlap across cultures and countries, resulting in persistent peaks in demand rather than a single “busy season,” as the world’s population grows more diversified and individuals travel more frequently for job, study, and family obligations. In the Northern Hemisphere, this demand often coincides with some of the most challenging operating conditions of the year. Snow, ice, blizzards, freezing fog, and strong winds are examples of winter weather that can interfere with airport operations, limit runway capacity, and cause network-wide delays.

Everyone wants to go somewhere else right now in the fast-paced world of today. Even though airlines and crews make considerable plans to keep operations running as smoothly and safely as possible, the mix of high passenger numbers, tightly planned aircraft rotations, and unexpected weather makes delays and cancellations more likely during the holiday season.

Q.) What should passengers keep in mind while they travel during the holiday season?

Captain Chris: Traveling around the holidays can be hectic and stressful, but keep in mind that everyone else is also attempting to reach their destination. Safety is always the top priority, and airline pilots and ground personnel will stop at nothing to ensure your safe arrival. Although delays are unavoidable, they are never ignored. When several individuals are assisting you, a little tolerance and compassion go a long way. They’re spending the holidays away from their own families so you can spend time with yours.

Q.) What are your family’s holiday customs around this time of year?

Captain Chris: I’ve discovered over the last thirty years that it’s not always possible for long-haul pilots to take Christmas off. I learned to deal with that fact instead of fighting it, sometimes by strategically placing bids for vacations that would allow me to travel with my family. Because of this, Christmas hasn’t always been traditional for us, but it has been immensely memorable. We’ve traveled to destinations like New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Cape Town during the holiday season. Making the most of our time together and transforming time spent away from home into something special is a custom that applies wherever we are.

Q.) When you work as a pilot, how do you spend Christmas and New Year’s?

Captain Chris: Making the best of the situation rather than fighting it is a continuation of what I’ve already discussed when I work during Christmas or New Year’s. We tend to take care of each other when crews are away from home and separated from family on big events. On those excursions, there is a genuine sense of companionship. We try to celebrate as a group, eat together, joke, and craft our own version of the event. Even though it’s not where we had intended to be, it’s still a nice place to be, and those times spent together frequently turn into some of the most memorable aspects of the work.

Q.) Tell us about any childhood traveling memories you had during the Christmas or New Year’s celebrations.

Captain Chris: My own childhood Christmas memories were quite different from those of my children, who have had the good fortune to become some of the most well-traveled individuals I know. Rather than adopting winter customs, we would frequently spend the holidays in a caravan on Lake Eildon, northeast of Melbourne, swimming, water skiing, and avoiding the heat.

My respect for how travel, in whatever form, makes lifelong memories was influenced by those uncomplicated summers filled with sun, water, and family time.

Q.) What should one remember in order to become a proficient pilot?

Captain Chris: The most crucial element in becoming a skilled pilot is RESPECT—RESPECT for the aircraft, the weather, and the regulations that are in place to ensure aviation safety. Because of decades of collected knowledge, demanding training, hard-earned experience, developing technology, and strict regulation, flying is as safe as it is today.

It takes years, often decades, to achieve true airmanship, and it necessitates humility and ongoing education. Aviation serves as a constant reminder that learning never ends and that a pilot should quit flying the moment they think they know everything.

Q.) Do you have any advice for aspiring pilots?

Captain Chris: I advise aspiring pilots to realize that while many people have the chance to fly, success requires tenacity, perseverance, and a sincere knack for learning. As you advance in your career, you will face challenging exams, frequent flight tests, and ongoing evaluation.

In aviation, learning and retesting never truly end, and it can occasionally feel overwhelming. When that occurs, concentrate on the next action, the next lesson, and the next check rather than looking too far ahead. Consistency and perseverance are rewarded in aviation, and if you keep going one step at a time, you will succeed.

Q.) Describe your very first flight as a pilot. To and from where was your first flight?

Pilot Yazan: The first time I flew as a pilot was on November 2, 2022. I flew aboard the Embraer E1 (E175) from Amman, Jordan, to Baghdad, Iraq, and it was an absolutely unforgettable day. It was both exhilarating and humble to take charge of a real commercial route while sitting in the cockpit for the first time. The flight out of Amman went smoothly, but as we took off, I could feel the weight of duty. As I entered Iraqi airspace, I took a moment to process the fact that I was actually putting years of preparation, practice, and training into action.

It was an iconic approach to Baghdad. That landing signaled not just the conclusion of a flight but also the start of my career as a pilot.

Q.) What made you decide to become a pilot?

Pilot Yazan: Being a pilot was always my dream job, so I chose to pursue it. From a young age, I was fascinated by aircraft and the concept of flying. Traveling the world, experiencing other cultures, and taking on the challenge and duty of securely transporting passengers across a variety of places are all made possible by my profession.

Q.) What should a pilot bear in mind when flying to the skies?

Pilot Yazan: A pilot must constantly strike a balance between safety, situational awareness, and following the rules when flying. This entails careful pre-flight planning, including examining the weather, aircraft condition, fuel, and weight restrictions. The pilot has to keep an eye on the instruments, remain mindful of other aircraft, communicate effectively with air traffic control, and be prepared for any emergency while in flight. Effective navigation, fuel management, and smooth aircraft control are essential, with passenger comfort taken into account when appropriate. Lastly, thorough landing preparation and post-flight debriefing guarantee future flight safety and preparedness.

Q.) If, as a professional pilot, you achieve all your objectives. What do you hope to contribute to the aviation industry?

Pilot Yazan: As a professional pilot who has accomplished all of his goals, the next step would be to improve safety, efficiency, and innovation in the aviation sector. This could entail pushing for improvements in aviation technology and sustainability, sharing operational experiences to enhance training and procedures, and mentoring the upcoming generation of pilots. Furthermore, encouraging a culture of professionalism and accountability, supporting research in human factors and flight safety, and helping to develop best practices would all help to raise industry standards and make air travel safer, more dependable, and more sustainable for all.

Q.) What do you think traveling is all about?

Pilot Yazan: A pilot’s journey is a special fusion of responsibility and exploration. Pilots, in contrast to ordinary tourists, observe the globe from the cockpit as they navigate various airports and airspaces and see landscapes unfold from above. In addition to providing opportunity to sample various cultures, cuisines, and settings during layovers, travel has become a professional routine that involves frequent movement between cities and nations. In addition to flexibility, self-control, and safety, the subtle joys of flying—like watching sunrises from 41,000 feet, feeling the excitement of takeoff, and enjoying the global connectivity that aviation provides—are equally significant. In the end, flying is a career and a personal journey for pilots, who use each flight as an opportunity to learn about accuracy, perspective, and the human experience of flying.

Q.) In your opinion, what traits should pilots develop in order to stand out among the many applicants for the same position?

Pilot Yazan: Along with good communication, teamwork, discipline, and adaptability, pilots should also develop great flying abilities, excellent decision-making, and situational awareness. Their love of flying and dedication to lifelong learning also make them unique.

Q.) During your flying career, what was the most significant change you witnessed in aviation?

Pilot Yazan: The biggest change I saw in aviation during my career was the speed at which technology was developing, especially the transition from analog to fully automated glass cockpit systems. Pilots’ roles shifted from manual operators to systems managers as a result of this transition, which increased flight safety, efficiency, and navigation accuracy while necessitating ongoing education and adjustment to new digital tools and processes.

Q.) Do you have a favorite route to fly? A vivid memory of something you remember seeing from the air during a flight?

Pilot Yazan: Yes, definitely! Since Toronto had some genuinely remarkable sites, it was one of my favorite flight routes. I recall flying over Greenland on the way there, its enormous ice sheets extending eternally below, a stunning reminder of the size and might of nature. I had the amazing experience of seeing the aurora, a shimmering dance of green lights over the night sky, for the first time from the cockpit on the way back. It was breathtaking to see that from above the clouds; it encapsulated the wonder of flight.

Q.) What do you want every traveler to remember when they get on their next flight?

Pilot Yazan: From the standpoint of a pilot, I want every passenger to keep in mind that professionalism and safety come first. Every flight is supported by a group of skilled experts who strive to provide a safe and easy travel experience. Furthermore, I hope they understand the intricate coordination and accuracy required to transport them safely from one location to another. Above all, I want them to enjoy the rush of taking off, the beauty of the planet from above, and the chance to visit new locations while having faith that every aspect of the trip is meticulously planned for their comfort and safety.

Q.) Any suggestions for future pilots?

Pilot Yazan: I always advise aspiring pilots to: master your flying skills, maintain discipline, communicate clearly, and never stop learning.

Yazeed: Aviation has always been my passion. Airports and airplanes have captivated me since I was a young child. I was particularly drawn to air traffic control because of the direct influence we have on flight safety, the high level of responsibility, and the need for accuracy. I believed that this line of work would enable me to significantly impact the aviation sector. I enrolled in Queen Noor Civil Aviation Technical College, one of the best institutions in Jordan for air traffic control, in order to work toward my goal. I gained the foundation and abilities necessary to succeed in this vital career from the instruction I obtained there.

Yazeed: In order to maintain a safe, orderly, and effective flow of air traffic, air traffic control is essential. ATC provides routing and sequencing, coordinates between sectors, shares weather information, and oversees aircraft separation from departure to arrival. Our participation guarantees a seamless flying experience for both passengers and crew, minimizes delays, and avoids collisions.

Yazeed: The most noteworthy incident occurred in 2022 amid an unexpected sandstorm. The visibility drastically decreased, and there were several international flights arriving. The situation was extremely stressful and necessitated quick coordination with pilots, aircraft rerouting, and safe separation. Through exceptional teamwork and prompt decision-making, we handled the situation safely, effectively, and incident-free.

Yazeed: I appreciate the job’s dynamic and ever-changing character. Every flight is a unique challenge, and no two days are the same. The most rewarding part is realizing that I contribute significantly to maintaining public safety and facilitating efficient air traffic flow.

Yazeed: The amount of responsibility and mental strain. Every command needs to be precise, timely, and unambiguous; mistakes are not tolerated. One of the hardest aspects of the job is maintaining optimal performance under pressure, particularly in times of emergency or heavy traffic.

Yazeed: Representing Jordan at the Singapore 2024 International Air Traffic Controllers Conference was an enormous honor. That was a really motivating event. I got to interact with experts from all over the world, share expertise, and learn about new developments in air traffic control. Speaking on behalf of Queen Alia International Airport made me feel honored.

Learning about cutting-edge systems such as Ground Service Movement and A-CDM (Airport Collaborative Decision Making) was one of the most beneficial lessons learned. Particularly in low-visibility situations, these devices are crucial for controlling aircraft movement between gates. They contribute to increased productivity and decreased delays, which is something I hope our own airports can adopt.

Such occasions broaden our perspectives, offer useful instruments for development, and foster our career advancement.  Being a member of this international aviation community makes me proud.

Yazeed: Indeed, the Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) is one of the most crucial technologies that helps avoid mid-air collisions and lower human error. Aircraft are equipped with this system, which operates independently from ground-based ATC. If it detects a possible collision, it sends out Traffic Advisories (TAs) and Resolution Advisories (RAs) after continuously scanning the airspace for other aircraft with transponders. The system tells pilots to do certain vertical maneuvers in order to avoid the conflict when a RA is triggered. TCAS acts as a vital backup system in the event of a misunderstanding or a delayed reaction, even if ATC is still in charge of traffic management.

Yazeed: In order to minimize misunderstandings, we utilize standardized terminology that has been authorized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). I politely ask the pilot to repeat or rephrase the information if I have trouble understanding a certain accent. Safety and clarity come first at all times.

Yazeed: A person who can think fast, communicate clearly, maintain composure under pressure, and collaborate well with others is a good air traffic controller. Strong senses of accountability, discipline, and a never-ending drive to learn and grow are necessary for this position.

Emirates will become the first Middle Eastern airline to offer daily service to the Chinese mainland. EK328 is scheduled to leave Dubai at 1005hrs and arrive in Shenzhen at 2200hrs. EK329, the return flight, leaves Shenzhen at 2355hrs and lands in Dubai at 0340hrs the following day.

Emirates will use a modified B777-300ER for this new route, providing passengers with 260 spacious economy seats, 40 lie flat seats in business class, 24 premium economy seats, and 8 private suites in first class. Emirates will transport 2000 tonnes of cargo from the Chinese mainland every week. It is anticipated that Emirates SkyCargo will uplift 10 tonnes of cargo per flight between Shenzhen and Dubai and promote exports such as high-tech gadgets and e-commerce goods.

In order to expand the network in Vietnam and Cambodia, B777 will operate four weekly flights to Da Nang via Bangkok on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. At 0900hrs, flight EK370 will take off from Dubai and land in Bangkok at 1825hrs. After that, the flight will leave Bangkok at 2010 hrs and reach Da Nang at 2150hrs. The return flight, EK371, is scheduled to depart Da Nang at 2330 hrs and arrive in Bangkok at 0110hrs the following day. After that, the flight will depart at 0340hrs and land in Dubai at 0650hrs.

On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, there will be three weekly services to Siem Reap.  At 0900 hrs, the EK370 flight will take off from Dubai and land in Bangkok at 1825hrs. After that, the flight will leave Bangkok at 2010hrs and land in Siem Reap at 2130hrs. The return flight EK371 is scheduled to leave Siem Reap at 2350hrs and land in Bangkok at 0110hrs the following day. After that, the flight will depart at 0340hrs and land in Dubai at 0650hrs.

Throughout their journey, passengers flying to Shenzhen, Da Nang, and Siem Reap will experience Emirates’ renowned hospitality, enjoying regionally inspired cuisine and first-rate beverages in every cabin class.

Emirates A380 flights to Copenhagen will have two-class configuration, with 58 lie-flat seats in business class and 557 spacious seats in economy class.

CCO Peter Krogsgaard of Copenhagen Airport made a statement, “We have been looking forward to welcoming the iconic Emirates double-decker aircraft back to Copenhagen. It’s a fantastic way to start the new year, seeing the world’s largest passenger plane with a total of 615 seats, return to Denmark after a hiatus of nearly five years.”

Emirates, which has won more than 20 major accolades in 2024, recently announced new routes to Bogota via Miami and Madagascar via the Seychelles, as well as the resumption of flights to Phnom Penh in Cambodia, via Singapore.

Emirates is using its iconic A380 to connect with the rest of the world.

Baggage delivery time: Counter Check in at 4:00 p.m.; delivery to the hotel at 8:00 p.m. For counter check-in at 6:00pm, delivery will be made to the hotel at 10:00pm. However, the maximum weight and dimensions for the baggage are 20 kg/44 lbs and 160 cm/63 in (length, width, and height). The airline will not take bicycles or golf bags for this service. The airline does not offer this service for private residences; deliveries are only made to hotels. This service will be provided in 14 Tokyo districts- Shinjuku, Shinagawa, Chiyoda, Chuo, Minato, Koto, Ota, Shibuya, Taito, Toshima, Bunkyo, Sumida, Meguro, Edogawa. The cost of the service, including tax, is 4,500 yen per suitcase.

 JAL is attempting to make travel to Tokyo more convenient and pleasurable for travelers by introducing this service.

By the end of 2024, Qatar Airways plans to have 12 B777-300s upgraded with this advanced service, surpassing its original goal of three Starlink-equipped aircraft. In addition, the complete fleet of B777s will be equipped with this technology in 2025, with the A350 fleet to follow in the summer of the same year.

CEO of SpaceX Elon Musk stated, “Overtime you’ll find it just gets better and better. This is the minimum and it only gets better from here.”

By partnering with Starlink, the largest satellite internet constellation in the world, which was designed and run by SpaceX, Qatar Airways, has achieved a new milestone as the first service provider of its kind in the Mena Region. Internet connection is provided globally by Starlink, including across oceans and other isolated areas that were previously inaccessible by conventional mobile or Wi-Fi transmissions. As the airline moves forward with its roll-out plans, the Starlink-equipped aircraft will fly on specific routes.
