Community Plaza Opens in Bordesley Green: A Beacon of Hope Against Crime and Inequality

Bordesley Green, Birmingham — 5 September

A powerful new chapter has begun in Bordesley Green with the official launch of Community Plaza, a community centre designed to tackle inequality, reduce crime, and bring people together — and the first to open under the Community Plaza™ national franchise and licence model.

The launch night attracted over 250 local residents, families, and community leaders, creating an atmosphere filled with optimism, unity, and purpose. Among the distinguished guests were West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster, who also presented Mohammed Zafran with his 50th Golden Achievement Award on behalf of Asian World Newspaper, Alan Edwards, Regional Manager for West Midlands Crimestoppers, MP Ayoub Khan, and guest speaker Wajid Burkey of Burkey Estates.

A National Brand With Local Roots

Community Plaza™ is the brainchild of Sajad Khaliq, the brand owner and founder, a respected media tycoon who has run a local, award-winning newspaper for the past 19 years. Drawing on nearly two decades of grassroots reporting, community advocacy, and social impact work, Mr Khaliq developed Community Plaza as a franchise and licence-based model, enabling trusted local leaders to deliver high-impact community services under one nationally recognised brand.

Speaking at the launch, Mr Khaliq said:

“This is not just about one building or one postcode. Community Plaza is a blueprint for change — a model that allows proven community leaders to replicate real impact across the country.”

Franchise Awarded on Proven Impact

The Bordesley Green Community Plaza CIC operates as a licensed Community Plaza™ franchise, awarded to Mohammed Zafran and the local director team based on his demonstrated track record of social impact.

Mr Zafran was granted the franchise following his claim of supporting more than 44,000 individuals into education, employment, and training, alongside his receipt of over 50 national and regional awards recognising his long-standing contribution to youth development, crime prevention, and community cohesion.

Founder Sajad Khaliq explained the decision:

“Community Plaza franchises are awarded on credibility, commitment, and impact. Mohammed Zafran’s work over the past 15 years, and the scale of lives he claims to have supported, aligned with our values and our ambition for the brand.”

Leadership With Lived Experience

Speaking emotionally on the night, Mr Zafran reflected on his journey:

“I’ve worked with young people who were broken, lost, and ready to give up. I’ve seen families torn apart by gangs and crime.

Community Plaza allows us to scale this work, reach more people, and create lasting change. This centre is about saving lives, building confidence, and ensuring no young person feels forgotten.”

Mr Zafran also serves as Chairman of Crimestoppers, further strengthening the centre’s focus on crime prevention, safeguarding, and community trust.

Celebrating Local Heroes

The evening also recognised individuals already making a positive difference. In partnership with Asian World Newspaper, the UK’s largest award-winning South Asian publication, Community Hero Awards were presented by the Police and Crime Commissioner and the Head of Crimestoppers, highlighting those who have gone above and beyond to support the Bordesley Green community.

A Place for Everyone

Thomas McGeever BCAc, Director of Community Plaza Bordesley Green CIC, said:

“The turnout tonight proves how much this centre matters. Community Plaza is the heartbeat of Bordesley Green — and now it’s time to turn that heartbeat into action.

This is a place for everyone. No matter your age, background, or circumstances — you belong here.”

What Community Plaza Offers

Community Plaza has been created to meet real, identified community needs, including:

Youth engagement and mentoring programmes

Knife crime awareness and prevention workshops

Women’s coffee mornings and support sessions

Equality, confidence, and empowerment initiatives

Health and wellbeing support for families

Skills development, employability, and training workshops

Recreational activities such as pool, snooker, table tennis, darts, and gaming

A hot food kitchen designed to bring people together

Looking Ahead

Closing the event, Sajad Khaliq outlined the wider vision:

“We are not here for a quick fix. Community Plaza is a long-term investment in people. Through our franchise and licence model, we aim to open centres across the country — led by individuals with proven impact and strong community trust.

Bordesley Green is the first step in what will become a national movement.”

With its doors now open, Community Plaza Bordesley Green stands as both a lifeline for local residents and the flagship of a growing national Community Plaza™ network, built on accountability, opportunity, and hope.

Birmingham City Council successfully carried out a major enforcement operation to arrest a prolific fly-tipper who had been under investigation for the past six months.

The individual was believed to be responsible for a significant number of illegal waste dumping incidents in the south of the city, causing environmental damage and blighting local communities.

As part of the investigation, the Council seized one vehicle that had been used to transport and dump waste illegally and West Midlands Police seized three vehicles for road traffic offences. In connection with the case, one person has been arrested.

Councillor Majid Mahmood, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said: “Fly-tipping is a blight on our communities and a serious criminal offence. We will not tolerate individuals who think they can profit by dumping waste illegally and leaving the clean-up costs to taxpayers. This joint operation between the council’s waste enforcement team and WM Police sends a clear message – if you fly-tip in Birmingham, we will investigate, we will find you, and we will take action.

“We are committed to protecting our neighbourhoods and the environment. Illegal dumping not only scars our streets and green spaces, but it also poses health risks and undermines the hard work of residents who take pride in their communities.

“I want to thank our enforcement teams for their tireless efforts in tracking down offenders and bringing them to justice. We will continue to use every tool at our disposal — from receiving intelligence from the public to surveillance, vehicle seizures and prosecutions — to crack down on this behaviour. I am sure everyone is really pleased when we catch these criminals.”

The Council urges residents to remain vigilant and continue reporting any suspected fly-tipping or unlicensed waste carriers. Anyone with any information on cases of fly-tipping is urged to contact www.birmingham.gov.uk/flytipping.

The Council continues to work closely with West Midlands Police and other partners to investigate and prosecute fly-tipping offences wherever possible.

Birmingham Smithfield will create a new city centre destination, providing a new home for the iconic Bull Ring Markets, along with spaces for start-ups, small business, and entrepreneurs.

The scheme will deliver a new residential neighbourhood with more than 3,000 new homes and a park, plus culture and leisure attractions.

The development is projected to create over 9,000 jobs during the construction phase and more than 10,000 additional roles post-construction.

The Enterprise Zone Partnership Board and Birmingham City Council’s Cabinet have agreed the Outline Business Case and Enterprise Zone Funding for Smithfield Birmingham, which brings the delivery of one of the largest and most exciting urban regeneration schemes in Europe a step closer.

A total of £172.8 million in grant funding has been allocated to the scheme, making the development financially viable, subject to the approval of full business cases for the different phases of the project, which will be submitted as the scheme progresses.

The Birmingham Enterprise Zone, established in 2011, covers 39 sites with 113 hectares of new and existing development space. The zone operates by using the business rates income growth from the 39 sites to invest and drive economic growth and improve the quality of live for Birmingham residents. The total cost of the grant will be met from the business rates income the development is expected to generate over the life of the Enterprise Zone programme to 2045/46.

The first Full Business Case that will release part of the allocated funding is expected to be submitted for approval early in 2026. In the meantime, Lendlease will continue the detailed design of the first phase including the new markets, first residential and workplace buildings and the new areas of public realm Manor Square and Market Square. Lendlease will also discharge planning pre-commencement conditions, undertake site surveys and finalise the site set up plans. The council will ensure that its Joint Venture Agreement with Lendlease for Smithfield Birmingham enables Lendlease’s new Joint Venture Partner, The Crown Estate, to formally participate in the scheme.

Last year the council’s Planning Committee approved revised plans for the 17-hectare development site that will create a new city centre destination, providing a new home for the iconic Bull Ring Markets, spaces for start-ups, small business, and entrepreneurs, a new residential neighbourhood with more than 3,000 new homes and a park, new culture and leisure attractions.

The development is projected to create over 9,000 jobs during the construction phase and more than 10,000 additional roles post-construction. Comprehensive training and support initiatives will be implemented to ensure that residents are equipped to access these employment opportunities.

Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills, Cllr Sharon Thompson, said:

“This £1.9 billion development will transform the area, creating a vibrant landmark in the heart of Birmingham—that will elevate the city’s economic growth and enhance its international reputation.

“Smithfield is the largest single city centre development site in the UK, and is a key strand of our plans to transform the city centre.

“Approval of this grant funding is a significant milestone that will kick start the delivery of 3,000 homes for Birmingham, create 9,000 jobs, and will make Birmingham’s city centre an even more exciting and lively place for people to live and work.”

Colin Murphy, Portfolio Development Director & Project Lead Smithfield (Birmingham) at Lendlease, said:

“This funding brings added momentum for the next phase of Smithfield and the long-term regeneration of Birmingham city centre.

“It’s a vote of confidence in the city’s future and a clear signal that delivery of this once in a generation scheme is on its way.”

Construction is expected to commence on site in early 2026 and the delivery will be completed in four phases over 10 years.

Birmingham City Council and partners have carried out a major enforcement operation targeting illegally modified e-bikes in Birmingham city centre.

This is part of ongoing efforts to keep the area safe for all who live, work, and visit.

Last week, 16 e-bikes were seized during a pre-planned multi-agency operation. Riders were issued with fines after officers discovered the bikes had been illegally upgraded to reach speeds of up to 40mph — far beyond the legal limits for electrically assisted pedal cycles (EAPCs). All seized bikes will now be crushed.

The operation is part of a wider response to increasing reports from residents, visitors, businesses, and professionals who live, work, and travel through the city centre. Complaints have included dangerous and inconsiderate riding, near misses with pedestrians, and collisions that have caused alarm and distress — particularly for vulnerable road users.

The action was carried out in partnership with the Birmingham Community Safety Partnership and West Midlands Police – including officers from Operation Fearless, the Road Harm Prevention Team, and Safer Travel – alongside British Transport Police, Immigration Enforcement, Paradise Security, and the Central and Colmore Business Improvement Districts.

Plain clothes and uniformed officers worked together to stop and inspect riders, checking the legality of their bikes and verifying rider status where appropriate. Immigration checks led to three arrests for immigration offences.

This is the latest in a series of planned operations focused on improving public safety and tackling the growing concerns from businesses, residents, and vulnerable groups around the dangerous and antisocial use of high-powered e-bikes.

Councillor Jamie Tennant, Cabinet Member for Social Justice, Community Safety and Equalities, said:

“Operation Frislen is the outcome of continuing work between Birmingham City Council and West Midlands Police about safety concerns around the use of e-bikes and other propelled transport in highly pedestrianised areas.

“We hope our recent collective intervention will not only take dangerous, untaxed and uninsured e-bikes off the street, but also provide valuable insight into the scale of the problem. This will enable all partners to identify further activities and actions that will reduce risks to the public.”

Inspector Scott Taylor from West Midlands Police added: “Dangerous e-bike use has become a major problem in the city centre – partners, businesses and pedestrians are telling us they feel it’s only a matter of time before someone is killed or seriously injured.

“We’ve been working alongside city centre businesses, including takeaways, delivery companies, the Central Business Improvement District and the city council in recent weeks.

“We’ve been out educating riders on the law and the impact dangerous riding is having on the city centre, and tonight’s operation has seen us step it up a gear and take firm action against those flouting the rules.

“We’d urge anyone who rides an e-bike for work or pleasure in the city centre to make sure they their bike is legal.

“We’ll be taking more action over the coming weeks, so anyone who ignores the law may well find their bike is seized and they are issued with a fine or are given a court date.”

This operation is part of Birmingham’s wider commitment to making the city centre cleaner, safer, and more accessible to all. Further days of action are planned in the weeks ahead.

E-bikes and the law
To legally ride an e-bike (known as an EAPC – Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle), it must:

Have pedals that can be used to propel it,

Use an electric motor with a maximum power output of 250 watts,

Not assist when travelling more than 15.5mph.

If an e-bike is modified beyond these limits, it is classed as a motor vehicle. That means it must be registered, taxed, insured, and the rider must have a valid licence. It also cannot be used on cycle paths or public roads unless compliant.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of the impact of ASB, support victims, and promote stronger, safer neighbourhoods for all.

The week, led by community safety organisation Resolve, is supported by the UK Government, Local Government Association, police and fire services, housing providers, and community partners across the country.

As part of the city’s contribution to this year’s campaign, Birmingham City Council is launching a series of actions under the theme #MakingCommunitiesSafer, with a strong focus on:

Ensuring guaranteed support for victims of ASB

Campaigning to reduce delays in the justice system

Supporting a national Information Sharing Agreement so services can act more quickly

Improving access to reporting tools so residents can raise concerns with ease.

Councillor Jamie Tennant, Cabinet Member for Community Safety at Birmingham City Council, said:

“Anti-social behaviour damages lives. It creates fear, drives people from their homes, and weakens the very fabric of our communities.

“This week is a vital opportunity to shine a light on the challenges we face and the progress we’re making. In Birmingham, we are committed to ensuring every victim gets the support they need, that services are better connected, and that everyone has a voice in making their neighbourhood safer.”

The Council is working closely with West Midlands Police, housing partners, youth services, and local communities to tackle ASB through prevention, early intervention, and enforcement where needed. Some of these include, hosting local drop-in events with neighbourhood officers, delivering awareness sessions in schools and youth hubs, sharing how to report ASB, and highlighting community champions and resident-led solutions.

On Saturday 21st June was the opening of a new institute in Birmingham Green Lane. Madrasah Ameer Hamzah is named in honor of the uncle of our Noble Prophet ﷺ – Sayyiduna Ameer Hamzah and my late twin brother Hamzah, whose life and legacy continue to inspire our mission. This new institute is rooted in over a decade of hands-on work with young people, through youth clubs, one-to-one mentoring, and residential retreats that have helped many build discipline, confidence, and connection to faith. Our goal is to get young people off the streets and into positive, faith-led environments where they can thrive mentally, spiritually, and socially.

We combine the timeless teachings of Islam with a modern, relatable approach. Whether it’s using multimedia workshops, open discussion circles, or outdoor retreats, we aim to make faith accessible and relevant. Especially in areas like B8, B9, and B10 where youth crime is rising, Madrasah Ameer Hamzah will act as a safe space for learning, guidance, and growth. Our projects will include after-school programmes, mentoring, career support, and street outreach — all designed to uplift our youth and connect them with good company, strong values, and the beautiful example of the Prophet ﷺ.

In a time overshadowed by doom and gloom, where confusion, crime, and chaos grip the hearts of our youth, we refuse to sit back and watch. Through Madrasah Ameer Hamzah, we aim to reignite the true message of Islam: one of peace, harmony, and purpose. Our mission is to raise a generation, whose understanding of the Prophet ﷺ is not limited to merely knowing, but living and implementing his ﷺ character of mercy, strength, and truth into their homes, their streets, and their futures.

Money – often an awkward subject that can lead to stress, feelings of anxiety, can cause arguments, or make you feel embarrassed when you need to ask for help. Talking about what you earn, or discussing debt is extremely personal and not something we are generally comfortable with sharing – even with our nearest and dearest it can be challenging.

But money worries impact hugely on our quality of life. Whether we have enough of it and don’t know how use it wisely, or we’re barely scraping by and need our money to go further and last longer, it pays to have some sound advice from someone impartial who understands how to better manage money – particularly as the financial landscape of the country is currently so changeable and uncertain.

In its recent health and wellbeing survey, Ben, the automotive industry charity, discovered that 1 in 5 automotive people are struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living, with energy, petrol and food bills at an all-time high.

One of the tools that Ben offers to those seeking support is access to its free Life Coaching service. Ben’s specially-trained Life Coaches work closely with individuals to help them to better plan and budget, and devise strategies to improve their relationship with money, putting them in a stronger position to be in control of their finances now, and in the future.

Rachel Clift, Health & Wellbeing Director at Ben, said: “Our Life Coaching service is designed to empower people – to give them the tools and strategies to improve their lives and achieve their goals. It’s free, it’s confidential and it’s working. We are already seeing people benefiting from the service, taking control of things that have been challenging them, and moving their lives forward in a positive and confident way.

“We are inundated with calls at the moment from people who are struggling with the rising cost of living. There is no shame in asking for help. In fact, it is the most sensible thing to do – we have Life Coaches ready to help you to fix your finances and money worries, giving you a stronger foundation to build from in the future. Take the first step towards making a positive life change and get in touch today.”

A member of the automotive community who is already benefiting from the service shared: “It’s been good to have someone neutral to talk to, someone to give me a different perspective, new strategies and tools to use. I’ve felt challenged in a good way and been asked to think outside of my comfort zone which has been great.”

If you have an idea of what you want to achieve but you’re not sure how or where to start, then talking with a Life Coach could be the solution for you. All you need is the time, commitment and energy to participate in the coaching sessions.

Ben’s Life Coaching service is free for anyone who works, or has worked, in the automotive industry. You can sign up and get started today by calling our free and confidential helpline on 08081 311 333 and asking for ‘Life Coaching’ or by completing this easy online form.

Remember, if you or someone you know is struggling financially or with anything else, don’t suffer in silence – chat with us online or call our helpline on 08081 311 333 (Mon-Fri 8am-8pm).

Russian chief Nikita Mikhalkov asserted that Billionaire Bill Gates may be trying to embed humanity
with nano-chips under the appearance of vaccination, attempting to control individuals. The
ultimate aim is to solve the problem of “over-population”.
The on-going coronavirus emergency has resulted in several conspiracy theories. People are trying to
find the “mystery” behind the pandemic. A bunch of them revolve around the Microsoft co-founder
Bill Gates and his endeavours to develop a vaccine against COVID-19.
Many “truth-researchers” found the Microsoft patent that recently got world-wide recognition to be
particularly disturbing. The patent WO/2020/060606 depicts a “cryptocurrency system using body
movement information – essentially, a gadget which can be utilized to mine digital coins using one’s
body. Or, then again, rather, grant cryptocurrency to the client whose body activity information is
checked, as the patent uniquely puts it.
The patent caught the attention of Nikita Mikhalkov, prestigious Oscar-winning movie director. The
director pushed quite a theory in another issue of “Besogon TV” ( generally translated as “demon
banisher”, named, In whose pocket the state is ?’. The show was aired on Friday by the Rossiya 24
TV channel, but was then quietly brought down from its schedule and not repeated.
The Russian director claims that the very name of the patent has a mysterious importance in it,
blaming Gates for attempting to embed people with nanochips to digitally control them.
Mikhalkov then goes on a tirade about a tragic future. The digitized society would be split into two
unequal parts, specifically the Elite and the Human drones they control. Furthermore, He pointed
finger at Herman Gref, the leader of Russia’s state-owned bank Sberbank who is a known defender
of digitalization of society and called him “The Gates Global Co-conspirator”. However, the director’s
theory lacked as to how the problem of over-population will be solved by the system.
The director’s new issue of “Besogon TV” became a web sensation, getting around 700,000 views in
less than a day.
The conclusions Mikhalkov drew are very fanatical and the patent WO/2020/060606 isn’t directly
connected to Gates. Gates is actually concentrating on running his and his better half’s Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation. Moreover, it didn’t mention any microchipping, rather describing sensors
combined with a “device” to register body movement. One affirmed purpose behind such an
innovation is to encourage a healthy lifestyle with clients awarded cryptocurrency for working out.
Another such conspiracy which is closely linked to the above-mentioned theory, named Agenda
ID2020, was doing rounds on the internet a few days back. It says that vaccination aims to embed
nanochips in the humanity. The real motivation behind the vaccination is to control the very
personal information and belongings of a person and to reward or punish him digitally. The whole
agenda was planned behind the doors of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2019. The theory
accuses Bill Gates and the Pharmaceutical companies such as The Rockefellers and The Rothschild
which are also the proponent of population control, were the master planners and are thus accused
for the outbreak of Covid-19 Pandemic.
Many celebrities, politicians and re-known personalities around the world are talking about this and
casting doubts on as to how this virus originated and spread and what is the real agenda behind it.

Recently Russian tennis legend Marat Safin said that the corona Virus could be an excuse for
embedding microchips into humans. Furthermore, he said that all this was planned at Davos
[Economic] forum and Bill Gates knew that. Everything was planned in a way so that this vaccination
agenda could work, said Safin. This tennis legend is not the only one who is supporting such
conspiracies, recently British former World Boxing Champion Amir khan said that the Installation of
5G could be the real aim behind this coronavirus outbreak.
Similarly, a petition has been filed against Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in White House. The
petition says that American Government should investigate as to how the Bill and Melinda Gates
Foundation in collaboration with The John Hopkins Centre for Health security and the World
Economic Forum conducted Event 201, a high-level pandemic rehearsal on 18 October,2019, in New
York, just weeks before the outbreak of Covid-19. The petition states that Bill Gates has always been
indulged in such anti-human population control activities and we can’t trust his new vaccine against
the coronavirus.

The outbreak of Covid-19 and the sub-
sequent lockdown made many women
more prone to fall prey to their violent
partner’s anger. It has been just a week
since the lockdown is imposed on UK
families, nine people have already been
killed and it is sadly expected to exceed
more in coming days.
Although our daily routine has been shut
and everything is closed but it is not the
case with domestic violence. In fact, it
has been increased many folds.
Lockdown initiated a horrible spate of
domestic violence which left nine people
dead across Britain. The recent case in-
volves a family living in Sussex, having
four members consisting of the builder
and his partner with two daughter aged
five and three. Two other men have been
charged the murder of their wives.
According to a UK-based author of The
Devil At Home, Rachel Williams who is
a campaigner of domestic violence and a
victim because she was too, shot by her
husband, puts forward her fear of further
expected violence, considering this just a
beginning. She says;
“The lockdown is hard for everyone, but
if you’re a victim of abuse, it’s hell. You
get no downtime,”
“You’re imprisoned with your captor
24/7, with no respite, when they could be
in work, the pub or somewhere else.
“What’s even worse, is that children will
be at home from school in less-than-ideal
circumstances. Often, they won’t get fed,
and will experience things they should
not be experiencing. But victims and
perpetrators need to know that the police
will come and they will force the door
down regardless. They will do it.”
According to a survey of March 2019, in
England and Wales, approximately 1.6
million women and 786,000 men expe-
rienced domestic violence. This count is
expected to elevate due to this lockdown.
Warning the oppressors, home Secretary
Priti Patel, who is minister in charge of
police has wrote a column in a Sunday
newspaper, saying;
“My message to every potential victim
is simple: we have not forgotten you and
we will not let you down. And my mes-
sage to every perpetrator is equally as
simple: you will not get away with your
crimes.”
The main problem being faced is intense
shortage of hostels for women due to
insufficient steps took by Government
for it as Local authority spent €31.2m in
2010 and it reduced to €23.9m in 2017
which led most of the refuges to shut
their doors for people turning them away.
A UK-charity, running 24 hours, posted a
catalogue enlisting the websites provid-
ing safety tips for survivors. many peo-
ple were furious after a video by, English
boxer, Billy Joe Saunders was released
in which he was sarcastically telling the
opponent that this is how to hit the fe-
male partner. He hitting the punch bag
explained this is what you should do if
“your old woman is giving you mouth”
and “hit her on the chin” and then “fin-
ish her off.” Afterwards when British
Boxing Board took away his license, he
apologized saying that he never approves
domestic violence. Upon this video, San-
dra Horley, Chief executive of refuge
stated that the video was as “dangerous
as it is shocking.”
The issue of domestic violence is not just
limited to UK but it happens all across
the world with 137 women dying every-
day being murdered by a family member
which according to a rough estimate in
one-third cases happen to be their ex-
husband or partner.
Cases of domestic violence reported in
china, after the outbreak of Covid-19,
reported in February 2020 are threefold
increased than those reported in Febru-
ary, 2019.
According to the founder of Anti-domes-
tic violence group in Jingzhou, central
Hubei Province, domestic violence has
hurled at the local police station. He re-
ported that in Jianli 162 reports of 7do-
mestic violence has been received which
make up threefold of those reported Feb-
ruary 2019. Stating it according to Statis-
tics, he said 90% cases are consequences
of Covid-19.
In India lockdown is imposed from last
three days. According to statistics in In-
dia a woman is raped after every 15 min-
utes with Delhi being the rape capital of
the world.
The count of people calling children’s
charity childline is reported to increase
by 9% in Ireland. Since the schools have
been shut, visits to the websites of char-
ity has been increased 26% and people
has started using its text with an increase
of 20%. According to a spokesman,
youth wants to discuss more about co-
rona virus, family relationship, anxiety
and worry.
A frequently asked question to such vic-
tims is why they don’t just live but in
this condition and especially in a coun-
try with pathetic conditions of promot-
ing humans right, it is not just hard but
nearly impossible to run away from such
relationship.
Although these victims have been ac-
knowledged that their not alone and for
them 24- hour helpline is there.
30% increase in such cases is seen in
France. Women, under such condition,
has been suggested to call 3919, under
the Slogan ‘It’s not forbidden to flee’.
France’s Secretary of State in charge of
Gender Equality Marlène Schiappa said;
“The crisis that we are going through and
the quarantine could unfortunately create
a fertile ground for domestic violence,”
further elaborating, that “the situation of
emergency shelters for female victims of
domestic violence is a major concern.”
But just hotlines are not enough. Victims
need a shelter to go. They are in a need
of new forms of communication and
good friends. Rachel Williams suggests
for this that “Why not just open the hotel
rooms for people in need? Why not give
them phones? If you think your friend or
neighbour is being abused, now might be
the time they want help,”
Although we have become scared of the
people and we are supposed to keep a
good distance of 2 meters from them but
that should not be a hurdle in way of ask-
ing them, ‘Are you okay?” For this we
can use social media means.
Government, in order to save lives has
stepped back to authoritarian and Dra-
conian measures but sadly, and shame-
fully, many would fall prey of domestic
violence .

Stress is many a time used as a social indicator of uneasiness and personal resistance from certain objects, places, persons, or environment. Environmental anxiety is what some people are facing in the current situation. The COVID-19, which is caused by SARS 2 (SEVERE ACUTE RESPIRATORY SYNDROME), has created an atmosphere of panic and chaos in the minds of people all around the world. With over 208 countries and territories being affected around the world, the pandemic has become more than we ever imagined. With the current situation of the virus, which has a fatality rate of nearly 5% becoming anxious is typical. The stress is bursting out for various reasons be it social or financial. Due to the lockdown people sure are missing out on potential opportunities; Financial instability for the working class, Education for students, life for healthcare workers and coronavirus positive patients and more.

Considering such a huge situation, governments, organizations, hospitals, volunteers around the world trying hard to create a positive and optimistic atmosphere to ease down the stress of the public by providing the right set of information, safety measures, and providing necessary support in all possible ways. Here are some of the ways that we’ve mentioned to help yourself:

Take proper sleep – Most of the time we ignore the fact that a proper sleep of at least 8 hours is necessary for the proper functioning of our brain and body. A drained out mind increases the stress level and thereby you feel more isolated. So a proper nap regardless of the situations outside is a way to healthy living.

Meditation – Yoga, and meditation if done, would help you overcome the stress as you will be more connected and involved with yourself. You will be able to see an altogether different version of yourself where you are more diligent and confident.

Create plans for future – See this as an opportunity to create a resourceful activity for the future, remember – your plans today decide whether you’re an asset or a liability in the future.

Take out some family time - All we do in our life is to support our family and on the other hand, it’s the family that receives our least time. You could educate your family about the benefits of staying indoors, not falling prey to depression and anxiety.
